The software release life cycle is the distribution process of a software application like a website.
Alpha
Alekese up to version 0.6.0 is an Alpha release. The Alpha release is the very first version of a website used by anyone other than the developers. The purpose of an Alpha release is to garner feedback from the users before the main version of the website is released. It is always easier to make changes to a website sooner rather than later, so getting feedback early on is more efficient than releasing a main version and waiting for bug reports.
Beta
Starting with version 0.6.0, released in early January 2010, Alekese was officially decreed in Beta status. Although it is still in heavy development, Alekese has matured to a point of relative stability. Its feature set has been implemented to cover all of the major functionality of the site, though we are still seeking feedback, especially from tutors.
Beta is still a word in progress, so if you happen across anything wonky, please let us know! Thanks.
