The Quality Links Reward Program is an exciting new incentive we've added to Alekese to encourage you to add quality Links to the site. Each week, the authors of the top-performing Links on the site split 75% of the net Alekese.com ad revenue.
How is Link quality determined?
When a user visits your Link and checks off one or more Skills that are associated with that Link, your Link gets a "checkoff point" for each Skill learned.
If the user visits your Link and then fails to check off a Skill, but then visits someone else's Link, your Link receives a "incomplete point".
The quality of the Links is the ratio of checkoff points to incomplete points (Daniel - what do you mean "weighted with the total number of visits"?).
You can view how many checkoff points you have relative to the site-wide total by going to the "Points" option in the context menu of your profile (see the image below).
Do Links ever expire or disqualify?
No. It doesn't matter when you add the Link. All Links qualify for the Reward Program each week. In fact, there is an advantage to adding Links early because there will be less competition from other related Links by other users which will cause your Link to get higher points quicker which will cause the Link to float to the top of the list which will further engender views and points.
So add your Links now, and in the future, you could be getting regular checks from Alekese.com!
Can I add more than one Link per Skill?
Yes. You can add as many Links as you want per Skill, and it won't detract from the performance of other Links, as long as all of the Links are quality. Low-quality Links will detract from your overall score regardless of what Skills they are associated with.
Can I associate more than one Skill per Link?
Yes. The only limit is that every Link must have at least one Skill. But theoretically, they can have as many Skills as the database can hold.
Overdoing the number of Skills a Link has can be detrimental to your Link's rating. If you have irrelevant Skills associated with a Link (or just too many of them), then you'll get more "incomplete points" which lowers your Link's rating.
Can I check off my own Links' Skills?
Sure. You can't give your own Links any "checkoff points", though, but there is no penalty. Additionally, you can't give your competitor's Links "incomplete points". You are welcome to visit their Links and check off the Skills, but these points won't be counted in any of the totals.
What if Alekese doesn't have any net ad revenue this week?
Not a huge problem. A quality Link today will still be a quality Link tomorrow. In fact, older Links tend to have stronger ratings, so they will float to the top of the lists, thus engendering more ratings and points.
What other benefits do high-quality Links provide?
In addition to the Reward Program, Alekese uses the checkoff points and incomplete points to determine the general reputability of the users who have added those Links. Also, Link quality is a factor in determining the quality of the Tree.
